Diablo Lake

What we Washingtonians have all been waiting for Highway 20 is clear of snow and opened last Friday. Highway 20 has numerous hiking trails, Nordic Lakes, waterfalls, and abundant breathtaking scenery. This pass is often called the Alps of the PNW.
Sunday morning we rushed up the pass and put our Kayaks in at the Colonial Campground boat launch. The water was warmer than I expected. The lake is fantastic for kayaking and enjoying nature. We saw lots of water fowl and the fish were jumping as well. The lake makes for a peaceful quite place to paddle and explore. The water has an unusual and very beautiful hue of green. We didn’t have much time to visit this trip, but we plan to come back.

Diablo is a beautiful water reservoir. It was formed when the Skagit was dammed for hydro electricity. The Diablo Lake Dam is on the lakes Western shore and is managed by Seattle City Light. They offer daily boat tours in July & August of Diablo lake if you prefer to travel in comfort. Visit the website for more information.

No trip to Diablo is complete without a stop at the viewpoint. From this vista you can take in all her majestic beauty. It’s also a great place for a rest stop. There is bathroom facilities.
