After you’ve eaten all the Wiener schnitzel your heart desires, visited the boutiques, and the arts & crafts booths head towards the river where you will find a hidden gem. Leavenworth City Park has miles of well manicured trails for your enjoyment. This is an impressive park originally built in 1975 and improved upon over the years.
The Blackbird Lodge was built a few years ago and sits on the edge of the park. This elegant resort is designed to look like a Bavarian Castle. You don’t notice it as much on the way out, but as you cross the bridge on your return trip it’s breathtaking.
Explore Blackbird Island that teams with wildlife. We stopped at a pond and there were so many fish jumping I could not get a photo of the mirrored surface of the pond. Bird watching is also a popular activity on Blackbird Island. We saw a Blue Heron and several other species. Up the hill from the park is Barn Beach Reserve which is a nine acre nature sanctuary. It is part of the Wenatchee River Institute. The institute offers a wide variety of environmental education activities, events, classes, and camps.
Follow the trail further West and you will fin Enchanted Park. You can also park here at this lot and use it as a starting point. Enchanted Park has one of the coolest BMX biking tracks I’ve seen. It also features an awesome skate park, playground, and a baseball diamond. No shortage of things to do here.
Along the trail you will find lots of beautiful views of the river and the mountains. We have also visited this park in the winter and have found it just as gorgeous covered in a blanket of snow.
Kids and dogs are welcome here.
