Sauk Springs & Skagit View Trails

This little trailhead to Sauk Springs and the Skagit View Trail just narrowly caught my eye today as I was headed West on Highway 20 toward Concrete, Wa. I made a quick u-turn and tucked my car to the side of the road next to the trail. Taking off on the first trail (Sauk Springs) without any clue what to expect.

Immediately I felt as though the highway was much further away as I entered an old Growth forest. There were infinite amounts of vibrant, green ferns and the sounds of a babbling brook from the ravine below was music to my ears. The well kept trail leads you out onto a bluff with peekaboo views of the Skagit River below.

Eventually I came to a “T” in the trail. Right would have looped me back to the car, but I chose left toward the Skagit View Trail. This loop isn’t quite as beautiful as the first, but it does have a nice picnic bench at the far end if you care to stay awhile. I would have, but I had more adventuring to do so I did a figure eight back to my car. My estimate is that both trails combined were an easy 1 mile with very little elevation change. This would be a great spot to stretch your legs during a long road trip along the beautiful North Cascade Highway.

Location:

Directly across the highway from Rockport State Park which is at 51905 WA-20, Rockport, WA 98283
