Out in the backwoods of Lake Stevens sits a very important park to the Lake Stevens Junior Athletics Association (LSJAA). Back in 1996 they helped pave the way toward purchasing the land which used to be an old homestead. Dreams of a ball field were alive and underway.
The fields are now called the Gary Cease Memorial Fields, after Gary’s involvement as the former LSJAA president. His impact was a big one on the local sports community and it was important to him that every child had the chance to participate and experience wins. Often times he would pay fees out of his own pocket to make sure nobody was left out. Unfortunately, in 2008 he lost his battle with lung cancer. The fields were rightfully named in his honor.
The late Mr. Cease was quoted saying “One win is success in a kid’s eyes and that’s all I wanted each kid to see, that one win. After that, it was up to the child to dream and succeed in life. Once he gets that one win I’ve done my job as a Little League coach.” Learning about this influential coach gave me new perspective on this already awesome park.
In addition to the several sports fields there is a walking path and playground. The park is extremely well manicured and far from the main road surrounded by tall trees. Pets are allowed on a leash, but not on the sports fields themselves. Come enjoy a walk in the park at this great location!
